About
The Burj Khalifa in Dubai, UAE, completed in 2010, is the world's tallest building at 828 meters — nearly twice the height of the Empire State Building. It has 163 floors, 57 elevators, and 304 hotels and residential floors. The view from the top (on a clear day) extends 95 km — you can see the curvature of the Earth.
The building required 330,000 cubic meters of concrete and 39,000 tonnes of steel. At its peak, 12,000 workers labored on it simultaneously. It was built by Emaar Properties using profits from the 2000s property boom; Dubai nearly went bankrupt in 2009 when the financial crisis struck, and the building was renamed from Burj Dubai to Burj Khalifa in honor of Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Khalifa, who provided a $10 billion bailout.
