About
The Eiffel Tower was built by Gustave Eiffel for the 1889 World's Fair, celebrating the centennial of the French Revolution. Standing 330 meters tall, it was the world's tallest man-made structure for 41 years. It was meant to be dismantled after 20 years but was saved because its antenna was useful for radio transmission.
Today it is the most visited paid monument in the world, with nearly 7 million visitors annually. The tower is repainted every seven years using 60 tons of paint. It actually grows about 15 cm taller in summer as the iron expands from heat.
