About
The Grand Canyon in Arizona is one of the most spectacular geological formations on Earth. Carved by the Colorado River over millions of years, the canyon stretches 277 miles long, up to 18 miles wide, and over a mile deep. Its layered rock walls reveal nearly 2 billion years of Earth's geological history — almost half the age of our planet.
The canyon was inhabited by Native Americans for thousands of years. President Theodore Roosevelt called it "beyond human conception" and helped establish it as a national monument in 1908. The Grand Canyon National Park receives about 6 million visitors annually and is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
