Van Gogh Starry Night

Vincent van Gogh painted The Starry Night in June 1889 while voluntarily committed to the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole asylum in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, France. Painted from memory and imagination, its swirling night sky over a village has become one of the most recognized and reproduced images in Western art. Van Gogh sold only one painting during his lifetime and spent most of his career in poverty and mental anguish. He died at 37, just a year after painting Starry Night. The painting is now in the Museum of Modern Art in New York and is considered priceless. Modern scientists have noted that the turbulent patterns in the sky correspond mathematically to the physics of turbulent fluid flow.
