About
Octopuses are among Earth's most intelligent invertebrates and arguably the strangest minds on the planet. They have three hearts (two pump blood to the gills, one to the body), blue blood (using copper-based hemocyanin instead of iron-based hemoglobin), and a distributed nervous system — two-thirds of their neurons are in their eight arms, which can act semi-autonomously.
Octopuses can solve puzzles, recognize individual humans, use tools, open jars, and escape enclosures. They change color and texture through chromatophores with extraordinary speed and precision — despite being colorblind. Their intelligence evolved completely independently from vertebrate intelligence — they are the ultimate example of convergent evolution.
