About
The tiger (Panthera tigris) is the largest wild cat species and one of the most recognizable animals on Earth. Their striped coats are unique to each individual — like human fingerprints. Unlike lions, tigers are solitary and fiercely territorial, patrolling ranges of 20–100 square kilometers.
There are six surviving tiger subspecies, including Bengal, Siberian, and Sumatran. All are endangered — fewer than 4,000 wild tigers remain, down from 100,000 a century ago. Tigers are powerful swimmers, unlike most cats, and often cool off in rivers. A tiger can consume up to 40 kg of meat in a single meal.
