About
Sir Isaac Newton (1643–1727) is considered one of the most influential scientists in history. In a single year (1666), while Cambridge was closed due to plague, he developed calculus, discovered the nature of white light, and formulated his theory of universal gravitation — one of the most productive years any scientist has ever had.
His work Principia Mathematica (1687) laid the foundation for classical mechanics and remained the dominant scientific worldview for over 200 years, until Einstein's relativity. Newton also served as Master of the Royal Mint and spent decades studying alchemy and biblical prophecy.
